Question Chelsea Filter

After reading a few books on colored gems I purchased a loupe & chelsea filter and a few parcels of stones for practice.
I have run across a grass green faceted stone (looks like a peridot) that shows a very lively sky blue when I view it with the chelsea filter under incandesant light. I've been trying for weeks to find a reference to such an indication.

The stone has 3 inclusions (30x loupe). All are in the same general area of the stone but on different planes. The smallest appears to be a brownish/red
"fuzzy dot" (technical term) the other is a blackish jagged line, the third looks a little like a puffy cloud with a a little wispy tail.

I don't own any other instruments at this stage, so ther's nothing else I know to do to helping me ID this thing.

Any help would be very much appreciated.

Hi John,

Regarding the Chelsea Filter - I have recently discovered that peridot does indeed turn an aqua blue color under the chelsea. I had never seen it documented anywhere, but I've tested enough peridots now to know that it's true. I even added it to my Chelsea Filter list that you can see here: http://www.yourgemologist.com/ChelseaFilter.html

Without other tests, it would be impossible for me to tell you if your stone is indeed a peridot, but some of the inclusions you list - especially the puffy cloud with the wispy tail - could be what is called a lilypad inclusion that is typically found in peridot.

Hopefully you will be able to positively identify your stone!

If you look through the table at the back facets, is there a doubling of the facet junction lines? In other words, instead of a single clear line where the facets meet, it looks like railroad tracks.

Thumbs up Chelsea Filter

Thank you for your quick response. I'll look for the double lines & I have printer the list of Chelsea fiter reactions, which I'll add to my reading material.

I.m so glad to have found this site. I've just recently taken an interest in Gems as a new hobby. I know I'm going to learn alot from the site. Will probably take the courses also.
