Arrow Spectroscope Study

We are fortunate to have a growing list of world class gemologists who are sharing information with the ISG Community. I recently had the honor of meeting (via email) John Harris of Gemlab UK who has done the most outstanding work with spectorscope photography that I have seen anywhere. Just amazing work that has produced the finest study and reference site for anyone studying or using a spectroscope.

Click on the link below and go to the Database. You will find actual real time photographs taken through the spectroscope that will be of great benefit.

You will note that there is a move on in the UK to switch the direction of the spectrum from the red.....blue taught previously to a blue....red used in the US.

As we have taught everyone in our course notes, you will need to simply read these accordingly since various parts of the industry view the spectrum from the different directions.

This is an outstanding website spectroscope resource that everyone should bookmark and use.

Unhappy

I can't open their files. Word says it's a read-only file and tells me it's password protected and encrypted, and says it can't open it unless I rename it and remove the password and encryption. I wouldn't even know how to do that, but don't think that's a good idea anyway. Anyone else having trouble opening them? Suggestions?

Crystal, I was able to open 2 of them, they're actually Excel spreadsheets.....if someone doesn't have Excel, the Google Spreadsheet free app will open most of them. They do open as read-only.

I just tried Googling that but so much came up I'm not sure where to look, and many are old, like from 2005. Would you possibly have a link to the one you have so I know it's the right one Squeaky? I'd appreciate it if you do.

If you guys need an excel type program you can download Open Office. It's the entire office suite, but a little different and it's free to use, you don't even have to register it. I use it for everything.

Thanks Stewart! I'm downloading it now and wanted to let you know if it worked or not, but it's going to take almost 30 min to download so I'll let you know if it doesn't work for me later. Thanks!
