Smile Rope chains for women...how thick is too thick?

What is the dividing line between gold rope chains that are usually considered suitable for men and women? Is 4mm too big for a woman and is 3mm too small for men generally? I realize there is much overlap, so I am looking for personal opinion more than fast rules on this. Thanks guys and gals.

Heh, I came into this post expecting something completely different. All I saw was ropes, chains, and women and I had to click on it

But as far as chains go, in the very rare case of me wearing a necklace I prefer something fairly thin. I couldn't tell you the mm size off the top of my head, but I'd say about the thickness of dried spaghetti. I think your best bet would be to not have a dividing line at all, that way there would be no awkardness in a man looking at women's chains, or a woman looking at a man's chain.

I see what you did there...

Thanks for the input.

I know I'm coming into this late but...

If it is for a pendant..the speghetti scale is good for me..but if it is a short chain..for wear by itself..thicker is better..just my preference..

For a guys chain..my son wears a gold hammerhead shark on a diamond cut chain..and it is more the thickness of cooked speghetti, and I have it repaired a lot..but then he wears it all the time.

I like the snake chain, but that is terrible with the hair on the back of my neck..oww. Maybe that's just me? Currently, it is almost worse to loose the chain than what is hanging from it..cost wise that is. So strength has to be a factor.

Happy New Year!

I missed this thread somehow. When it comes to chains on men ... just say NO!! Unless there is something decent (no gigantor cross or names) hanging from it

Don't think 5mm is too big for a woman and definately, not too big for a man. If you want a pendant chain, 3mm would be better. Also 20" is a good length. 18", altho standard, is a little too short for pendant unless you always wear closed collars.

You can't have too much of that gold stuff! D
